Mexico Reports in the Week 30 Heat-Related Deaths, Bringing Total to 155

The Mexican Ministry of Health updated the number of people killed by heat effects, which increased by 30 since last week, bringing to 155 the total number of people killed by high temperatures since the beginning of 2024.

In week 24 alone, which covers 13 to 18 June, 259 cases associated with extreme natural temperatures were reported, in addition to the thirty that ended up being fatal, according to the secretariat.
According to the SSa report, the states that reported deaths in week 24 were Veracruz (13), Yucatán (5), Oaxaca (4), Tamaulipas (2), Baja California (1), Chihuahua (1), Guerrero (1), Nayarit (1), Nuevo León (1), and Sonora (1).
Although the report reflects 30 new deaths this week, some of them belong to previous periods and had not been confirmed to date, hence of the deaths reported in week 24, three are attributable to the second wave, and 17 to the third heat wave.
From the Ministry of Health warn that high temperatures will continue in the country in the next week, as maximum temperatures are expected to exceed 45 °C in Baja California and Sonora and maximum 35 to 40 degrees Celsius in Baja California Sur , Chihuahua , Durango and Sinaloa, all states of northern Mexico.
Something milder but still higher will be the maximum temperatures experienced in the northern states of Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, in the western states of Nayarit, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guerrero, Morelos, Oaxaca and in the southern entities of Chiapas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán.
The statement reminds the population the importance of staying hydrated, consuming fresh fruits and vegetables as well as avoiding sun exposure.
